Air quality has deteriorated significantly this evening. We are getting hit from both directions—Chelan and the Peninsula. The index is over 150 in Mountlake Terrace and South. That would mean cancelled games.
After the 2022 fires, North County Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA) adopted an official policy how to handle many extreme weather events including Air Quality. If you want to see it, it is linked on the
North County Home page. The Air Quality part is on pages 3 & 4.
The policy uses the
AirNow website conditions as our index. If you are at a field, you should check the closest reporting site to that field. Cancel the game any time the PMI Level is above 150 (RED). For a level between 102 and 150 (ORANGE), use two water breaks per half but the game is still played. For the YELLOW range (51-101), use a water break each half. The policy is clearly defined on page 3 of the North County policy. You can get additional details in the policy document itself.
North County will make a general evaluation in the morning at 7:00 am. Based on conditions across our playing areas, we will make recommendations on how to proceed. If the PMI level is significantly high, all games and sessions could be canceled.
An email will be sent to everyone about our local conditions. Decisions will be posted in the Latest News section of our website. Player families should check with their respective coaches and coaches should check in with their opponent coaches to keep everyone updated.
