Coach Responsibilities and Ethics

Silver Lake Soccer Club (SLSC) expects all of its volunteer coaches to read and understand all team and coach responsibilities and ethics detailed in the first few pages of the North County Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA) Procedures and Rules of Competition.

Coaches are also expected to have read and understand the following Code of Ethics document provided by Washington Youth Soccer (WYS) in 2009.

COVID Guidelines

The current situation for guidelines and recommendations for COVID are fluid and dynamic. Silver Lake Soccer Club will rely on the information available from the Washington Youth Soccer Return To Play page unless otherwise posted on our website.

Currently (as of Aug 30, 2021) soccer players/coaches/spectators are allowed to remove facial coverings for competitions and training while at Silver Lake Soccer Club area locations including Everett School District fields, Mill Creek Sports Park, and City of Everett fields including Kasch Park and Walter E. Hall.

Other North County Youth Soccer Assocition venues and locations may require masks. Please check and confirm guidelines with opponent coaches before each game.

2021 Practice Schedules / Field Layouts

Practices are typically two one-hour sessions on Mon/Wed or Tues/Thur with the possibility of a Friday two-hour session instead and, depending on field location, run from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM (see the request form). During the month of August, the Everett School District has limited the use of some fields. There are currently over 100 teams that will practice and must be split into available fields during that time--SLSC may also use weekend time to be able to cover all requests.

Keep in mind that requesting a practice time of 6:00 PM or later on a non-lighted fields will run into daylight issues in the month of October--SLSC can not accommodate requests to make up that time lost.

Practices will run August 1st through October 31st.

See the Practice Fields section of the website to make a request or view field maps.

If you need the Honey Bucket and Goal Lock codes contact your VP Teams. Please be sure to lock these resources up if you are the last one using them.

If you are practicing at an Everett School District field or will be playing home games on one, you may need a key to get access to the parking area and/or field. Keys can be arranged by contacting the club VP Operations.

Medical Release Form

Coaches are expected to have a signed medical release form for each player at all times including practices and games. This form is necessary if an emergency happens while players are in the coach's care. Hand out this form during the first practice and have players return it completed by the next practice. This form does not need to be notarized.

Please help us update our birth date verifications. SLSC is currently in the process of asking parents to verify birth dates if we do not have a current record--even if they have played previous seasons.

Club Uniform Order Information

Recreational teams are responsible for their own uniform orders. A coach or a designated team parent/manager is expected to collect sizes, jersey number requests and payment from each player. A single order is then made through Score Sports. SLSC suggests collecting checks from parents made out to coach or manager and then using a personal credit card to make the order. Keep in mind that Score will add shipping and handling to your order. Most players will only need the Silver Lake Kit 1-1-1. Other equipment is available and can be purchased through the Score Sports website if desired.

The recommended club colors are the SIL/BLK option as shown on this page. There is help for finding uniform sizes. See this page:

Based on past experience orders should be submitted by August 15th to have a chance for delivery by the first game of the season. Orders made after this date--even if Score Sports indicates they can be delivered in a week--typically don't arrive in time. So please order as soon as possible.

Coach Store - Equipment Ordering

2021 Equipment Form

Please contact Karen Wood at email with orders or questions.

Each 8U coach will receive a starter package consisting of four 9" cones, four youth pinnies, one mesh ball bag, ten 2" disc cones and one First Aid Kit.

2021 only: since Covid essentially closed our 2020 season, U9 coaches will be receiving a starter package as well

10U to 19U Coaches receive a $35 credit in the coach store to add to their equipment each year, use the link above to see the order form.

Alternate Jersey Information

Teams from age groups U-10 and below, often play other Silver Lake Socer Club teams. When this happens both teams will have identical uniforms. Also, other soccer clubs occasionally have uniform colors that are similar to the SLSC uniform. Colored pinnies are a quick fix for this type of issue. Previously, Silver Lake Soccer Club has assisted with ordering a t-shirt in an alternate color that would help this situation, however the demand for this was low enough that SLSC is dropping that option. You are free to pursue other alternatives with your team, but pinnies for the home team should work just fine.

Concussion Education Information

All Silver Lake Soccer Club Registered Volunteers and Participants are required to review the WYS Concussion Information during registration. This information is also available here for your reference.

Game Schedules

Game Schedules and Coach Contact Information is provided via the NCYSA website. When schedules are available, the VP Teams will contact you with information on how to access your team's schedule.

When schedules are available, the can be viewed online using this website link.

Requests for game changes: Game schedule changes are difficult to manage, so we encourage only those requests which are reasonably unavoidable--e.g. no coach is available, a previously scheduled external function like Homecoming, college entrance tests, or other large group related events has dropped too many players to field a team. We strongly discourage game change requests for reasons such as the time is too late or too early or to work around a Seahawks or Sounders game. If your request, falls within these recommendations, please send a request to James Calvert to examine what time and location is available. It would help if the coaches involved have already discussed a few potential dates that could work. Please allow enough time for a few back and forth iterations to find a suitable change leaving enough time to schedule referees if possible.

Game Day Preparation

Season begins September 11th/12th, 2021

Coach Contact

The home coach is expected to contact their opponent coach prior to each game confirming field location and time. This is also a great time to find out if there are conflicting jersey colors and to exchange team names. All necessary contact information will be provided on the NCYSA website discussed in the schedule section above. Schedules occasionally change, this coach contact prevents travelling long distances to find out the field or time changed--it happens more often than you might think. If your opponent is the home coach and has not contacted you by Thursday before the game, don't hesitate to call them first.

As described in the coach responsibilities, the coach should provide a roster to the referee and opponent coach. You will be required to provide an official roster that was generated by our BONZI registration system. Your AGC will be delivering these to you via email.

Everett School District Field Access

If you have home games at an Everett School District field, you may need a key to get access to the parking area and/or field especially if you have the first game of the day. Keys can be arranged by contacting the club VP Operations.

The Laws of the Game specifically prohibit players from wearing any jewelry (or decorative object) of any kind--including earrings, studs, bracelets, wrist bands/ropes, etc... Medical Idenitification bracelets and necklaces are allowed. The referee should not have to ask you or the players to remove these items. Coaches should teach players to simply not wear these items to games. You are also not allowed to tape over newly inserted earrings to get around this issue--they must be removed. It would be best if players did not get new piercings during the soccer season.

North County Youth Soccer Association strictly prohibits all recreational soccer participants from playing while wearing any form of cast or splint. Do not ask the referee if it is okay--they do not have that authority and risks negating player insurance.

Game Formats/Rules

The Silver Lake Recreational Soccer Program is played according to the laws put out by the International Football Assocation Board (IFAB) and amended by NCYSA. Washington Youth Soccer uses a "small sided standards" soccer experience for age groups U-12 and under where specific laws of the game, such as field size, number of players, free kicks and more have been modified to allow the best learning experience for each of those age groups.

US Soccer has updated the small sided standards several times along with their Player Development Initiatives. The following link will hopefully be kept up to date by US Soccer with the latest information, however the North County YSA Rules of Competition supercede this information based on when they were able to implement changes--there may be differences between the two. US Soccer Player Development Initiatives.

If you would like to become more familiar with the Laws of the Game you might be want to review what is availabe from US Soccer on the Laws of the Game. IFAB also produces a handy mobile app for your phone.

A summary of the rules of competion for all age groups playing in NCYSA can be found at their website rules page where you can download the latest:

Game Score Report

To promote the spirt of the game and the best learning experience for younger players, scores are only kept and recorded for U-10 age groups and above. U-10 records will not be displayed and will only be used to help place teams into appropriate divisions for the next season. Each coach is required to report the score of each game on the North County website. Contact your AGC if you need assistance with this.

2021 ALERT: North County Youth Soccer Association is still working on their website after their previous provider ended service. There is currently no online score reporting.
